If battery life is what matters most to you, two facts from 2026 should shape your choice. First, the phones with the biggest batteries sold in the US are made by OnePlus, which uses a newer silicon-carbon cell. Second, among cheaper phones, battery size barely differs, so screen and chip efficiency decide which one lasts longest.
This guide covers phones sold in the US, Canada and Australia as of October 21, 2026, from flagships down to budget models. Different publications use different battery tests, so compare results only within the same test.
Quick picks
- Longest-lasting phone overall: OnePlus 15, 7,300 mAh (limited stock in the US and Canada, see note below)
- Big battery for less: OnePlus 15R, 7,400 mAh (limited stock in the US and Canada)
- Best iPhone for battery life: iPhone 18 Pro Max
- Best budget phone for battery life: Moto G (2026), $299
- Best mid-range all-rounder: Pixel 10a
- Biggest batteries for the money in Australia: Redmi Note 15 Pro+ and Poco X8 Pro, both 6,500 mAh
Battery size is not the whole story
Most US phones in 2026 still have batteries between 5,000 and 5,200 mAh. With capacities that close, the screen, the chip and the software decide how long a phone lasts.
The clearest example is Motorola's 2026 Moto G line. The Moto G, Moto G Play and Moto G Power all have the same 5,200 mAh battery and the same MediaTek Dimensity 6300 chip, yet GSMArena found the two cheaper models outlasted the Moto G Power. The difference is the screen: the cheaper phones use lower-resolution 720p panels that need less power.
The Pixel 10a shows the same effect from the other side. It keeps the 5,100 mAh battery of the Pixel 9a, but GSMArena measured an Active Use Score of 15:13 hours and found it beat the 9a in every test, crediting a more efficient display.
Best flagship phones for battery life
OnePlus 15: longest-lasting phone you can buy in the US
Availability update (October 2026): OnePlus stopped launching new products in North America and Europe in July 2026, so the OnePlus 15 and 15R are its last phones for the US and Canada. Both sold out on OnePlus's US store and at Best Buy by August, and only limited stock remains at other retailers. Phones you already own keep getting software updates and warranty support. If you cannot find one, the iPhone 18 Pro Max and Galaxy S26 Ultra below are the longest-lasting phones still widely sold in the US. Read why OnePlus left North America.
7,300 mAh silicon-carbon battery · 80W wired (US) · 50W wireless
The OnePlus 15 has the largest battery of any flagship sold in the US, and it topped GSMArena's battery ranking with an Active Use Score of 23:07 hours. It uses the same 7,300 mAh capacity worldwide, but US models charge at 80W instead of the 120W offered elsewhere.
OnePlus 15R: a big battery for less
7,400 mAh · from $699
The OnePlus 15R has an even larger 7,400 mAh battery at a lower price. Reported wired charging speeds differ (55W or 80W), so check the spec sheet for your region.
iPhone 18 Pro Max: best iPhone for battery life
Apple rating (US): up to 45 hours of video playback, 30 hours of typical use
Apple does not publish battery capacities, but it rates the iPhone 18 Pro Max at up to 45 hours of video playback in the US. It reaches 50% in about 15 minutes with a 60W adapter and supports 25W MagSafe and Qi2 wireless charging.
There is a regional difference worth knowing. US models are eSIM-only, which frees space for a larger battery. Apple rates the Australian model, which keeps a SIM tray, at 43 hours of video and 29 hours of typical use. Leaked certification filings put the gap at about 5,567 mAh versus 5,391 mAh; Apple has not confirmed those figures.
The smaller iPhone 18 Pro is rated at up to 36 hours of video in the US and 34 hours in Australia.
Galaxy S26 Ultra: Samsung's longest-lasting flagship
5,000 mAh · 60W wired · 25W wireless
The Galaxy S26 Ultra keeps a 5,000 mAh battery but gains faster 60W wired charging. Published tests place it close to the iPhone 17 Pro Max, with reviewers split on which lasts longer. Compare them on our S26 Ultra vs iPhone 18 Pro Max page.
Pixel 11 Pro XL
5,115 mAh · 45W wired · 25W Qi2.2 wireless
The Pixel 11 Pro XL's battery is slightly smaller than last year's 5,200 mAh, and Google confirmed it does not use silicon-carbon cells. Independent results vary widely by test method.
Best budget and mid-range phones for battery life
Moto G (2026): best budget pick
5,200 mAh · 30W · $299
The Moto G is the longest-lasting budget phone in GSMArena's testing of the 2026 Moto G line, helped by its 720p screen. It fills to 48% in 30 minutes and charges fully in about 1 hour 14 minutes.
Moto G Play (2026)
5,200 mAh · 18W · $249
The Moto G Play lasts nearly as long as the Moto G but charges slowly, taking about 1 hour 49 minutes to fill. It also has only 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.
Pixel 10a
5,100 mAh · 30W wired · 10W wireless · $599
GSMArena's 15:13-hour Active Use Score makes the Pixel 10a a strong all-day phone, and it adds seven years of updates and IP68.
Nothing Phone (4a) Pro
5,080 mAh (US and international) · 50W · $499
GSMArena found the Phone (4a) Pro's endurance improved over its predecessor in every test and called its video streaming result "particularly impressive." It is also the fastest charger in this group, filling in about one hour.
Galaxy A57
5,000 mAh · 45W · $599.99
Expert Reviews measured 31 hours 51 minutes in its looping video test. See the Galaxy A57 page for full specs.
Australia gets bigger batteries
Australian buyers can choose phones with much larger silicon-carbon batteries than anything sold at this price in North America:
- Redmi Note 15 Pro+: 6,500 mAh and 100W charging, A$799
- Poco X8 Pro: 6,500 mAh and 100W charging, usually about A$599 to A$649
No independent endurance results were available for these two in our research, so we recommend them on capacity and charging speed rather than tested battery life.
Why US phones have smaller batteries
A shipping rule. Under US hazardous-materials rules, a device with a single battery cell over 20Wh must ship as dangerous goods. Flagships already sit just under that line, which caps single-cell phones at roughly 5,000 to 5,200 mAh. Brands get around it by splitting the battery into two cells, as OnePlus does, or by selling a smaller version outside some markets. Nothing, for example, rates the Phone (4a) Pro at 5,080 mAh internationally and 5,400 mAh in India.
Slow adoption of silicon-carbon. Silicon-carbon cells store roughly 10 to 30% more energy in the same space as standard lithium-ion cells. Samsung said it would adopt them only after "stringent internal testing", and its first models are the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8. Google's Pixel 11 phones do not use them.
Design choices. Removing the SIM tray, as Apple did on US iPhone 18 Pro models, leaves room for a slightly larger battery.
Charging speed compared
